She was born in North Carolina in 1947. Because her father was a vocalist
and choir director, she has always been interested in music.
From the time she was four years old her mother felt she would become a missionary, but she never mentioned it to her until years later. At the age of twelve, a verse read in a special conference touched her, and she had a clear sense of calling as a missionary.
And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:14)
At around the same time God also told her the place she would serve as a missionary was Japan.
Her first year of junior high shool her class got a big
envelope filled with letters from Japan. In Japanese schools at that time
it was popular to send letters overseas to improve their English skills.
Each of the students in her school wrote back, and only Cathy got a letter
again. She keeps the letter even today. "I don't know why only I got
a reply. It's all because of God," she says, smiling.

At the age of thirteen, she saw the snow festival in Sapporo on TV. "I want to go there!" she said. Then her father said, "I think you will go there someday."
She met Jack in college. In 1969, they got married. 1974 is the year she
first came Japan. Over fifteen years had passed since she committed to
become a missionary.
She is the one who designed the church building. She even used a computer to draw the plan. Her hobbies are cooking and Sudoku puzzles. Her home-made pies have an excellent reputation.
"I've always wanted to tell people, 'God loves you,' since I was a child." She has been telling God's love to people in Omura.
